4th Sunday of Easter
Welcome Guests - If this
is your first Sunday here at St. Mark’s, may you find a gracious
welcome. Your questions are welcomed. Even if you might be here just
for this day, may St. Mark’s feel like home to you.
Today at St. Mark’s:
- Adult Education
this morning: April 13 at 9:05am. The interim rector and Vicki Garvey
will continue the series of Living the Questions. This series features
theologians and church leaders from many different traditions.
- Childcare
is available each Sunday morning from 7:45 until 11:30 a.m. in the
last classroom on the left in the upstairs hallway.
- Let us
remember those celebrating their birthdays this week: Alex Kruse,
Emily Svec, Bev Sweeney, Nellie Kruse, Julia Menzel and Katy Apmann.
- This Morning:
The Flower Guild invites you to join them for “April in Paris”.
. . . This fun event is hosted by the Flower Guild to thank all of
you for your support and sponsorship of the weekly altar flowers and
holiday celebrations. You will also have the opportunity to reserve
a Sunday to sponsor flowers in the upcoming year. Please join us in
Fellowship Hall this morning after the 10:15 service for a party in
gay Paree style and food with a French flair!
- Why is
the Harris Bank Bear sitting next to the Blue Episcopal Bear? And
why is he holding a Kansas University Banner? The answer will come
with the announcements. ghm
- Hospitality
hosts are needed for the last two Sundays in April and all of May
after the 10:15 service. If you would care to sponsor a particular
Sunday, please contact Holly Dietz this morning or call her at 847-669-0184.
- Looking
Ahead:
- Movers
needed next Saturday: I would appreciate the help of 6 to 8 people
who would help me load our U-Haul truck next Saturday morning about
10am. It should go very quickly as I don’t have a great deal
of furniture. If you can help, tell me this morning and I’ll
add you to my list. Thanks. ghm
- Farewell
Hors d’oeuvre/Dessert Party for George and Caroline Martin.
Please join the St. Mark’s Vestry on Friday, April 18th, 7-9pm
in the Anniversary Room for a celebration of good wishes and much
appreciation. The Social Life Committee requests that parishioners
with last names beginning A-K bring an appetizer and wine and those
with last names beginning L-Z bring a dessert and non-alcoholic beverage.
If you prefer, your favorite specialty from either category would
be most welcome. Please RSVP to the church office, 847-381-0596 by
April 15th. See you there.
- Baptisms
next week: I’m so pleased to announce that Jerelyn Zepeda and
her two daughters, Sophia and Isabella, will be baptized on my last
Sunday with you. We have emphasized baptism so much in my short time
with you that it seems fitting to celebrate this sacrament with all
on my last Sunday. ghm
- Our new
interim rector, the Rev. Mary Tudela, begins her ministry with us
on Monday, April 21 and will have her first services on Sunday, April
27.
- Chicago
Master Singers will present two spring concerts entitled "Music
of France and America" on Friday, April 18th at 7:30 P.M. and
Sunday, April 20th at 7P.M. at Divine Word Chapel, 2001 Waukegan Rd,
Techny, IL. Featured are American composers Morten Lauridsen and Randall
Thompson and French composers Villette and Vierne. The group will
take this repertoire on tour to France in July. For tickets, call
1-877-825-5267 or visit www.chicagomastersingers.org Thelma Stevens,
Bob Alberding, and Kate Graham from St. Mark's are members of CMS.
- Care N’
Share will meet Saturday, April 26 at Kaye Zook’s home at 6:30
pm. Please call Kaye at 847-381-3581 with your choice of a dish to
pass.
- Invitation
Cards for Rogation Sunday: We will hand out a couple of cards to everyone.
Extras on the guest book table. These cards will be fun for you to
share with a neighbor or relative’s pet. We ask that you make
the card out in the name of the pet. If their owner chooses to come
with them they will be welcome as well. Rogation Sunday is April 27th.
While most people will probably bring pets to the 10:15am service,
we want folks who come at 8 o’clock to feel free to bring their
pets as well. Your new interim rector, who begins her ministry that
Sunday, will be pleased to bless any pets or plants following the
early service. ghm
- The children
of St. Mark's, 6 and up, have shared with us their thought of acquiring
toys for playing outside on Sunday mornings after the worship services
i.e. soccer balls, footballs, frisbees, basketballs. Therefore, to
pay for such items, the Sunday school kids will host an ice cream
social on Sunday, April 27th, after the 10:15am service. Cost: $2
per sundae. Please come support your kids! cm
- Is it
almost full yet? Do hope your United Thank Offering “Little
Blue Box” is feeling the pressure of fullness! If you did not
receive a box, you can find one in the narthex. Our first “Ingathering”
will take place in May coordinated by Cornelia Skoulund and Shirley
Horn. Typically, people not only put their coins in their blue boxes,
but many will write out a nice check on the day of the ingathering.
Just image those it will help. ghm
- Spring
Work Day is Back!! Please mark your calendar for Saturday, May 3,
to come be part of the St. Mark's beautification crew. We will work
on the grounds from 9am until noon spreading mulch, weeding, and other
tasks on our list. There will something for everyone of all ages to
do! Can't wait to see everyone here on May 3rd!
- Seeking Volunteers:
In our continuing effort to reduce expenses around St. Mark's, we
are forming a team of people to handle the mailings that are processed
by our office. We need a team of 3-5 volunteers able to come in at
a pre arranged time to stuff envelopes and/or affix postage. An individual
or two may be needed once a month. Please contact Lis Schoon in the
office if you are interested in serving your church in this manner.
Your help is greatly appreciated! ekl
