The Rev. David A. Gibbons Named 7th Rector of St. Mark’s Church

The Wardens and Vestry are pleased to announce that The Rev. David A. Gibbons has accepted the call to be the 7th rector of St. Mark’s Church. David is currently the rector of St. Faith’s Church in Havant in the Diocese of Portsmouth, England.

David, his wife Susan and two daughters Elise (12) and Sophia (8) will join us by mid-August. Susan grew up in Buffalo, New York. She and David met in Berkeley, CA where he was studying theology and she was working on her Ph.D at the Graduate Theology Union.

David has his Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics and physics from the University of York, MA in theology from Oxford University and MA in Christian spirituality from the University of Wales.

He is a sports enthusiast and enjoys tennis, running and walking the family dog, Buddy. He is also an avid reader and enjoys many types of music.

We look forward to welcoming David, Susan, Elise, Sophia and Buddy to the St. Mark’s family.

ST. MARK'S NEWS  

Christian Formation Hour (9:05am)every Sunday A New set of classes started in January.
Living the Questions: This is a series featuring some great thinkers, and even a few who are controversial. We ask the hard questions. We get to discuss these things, but we're not being told what to believe. After watching a 20 minutes DVD the floor is open for discussion.

May 11th is Mother's Day and there is so much happening at St. Mark's!
J2A (High schoolers) are hosting their Annual Mother's Day Rose Sale! Be sure to pick up some gorgeous flowers and an original card for the special person in your life.

Rite 13 (junior highers) are leading the 10:15am worship service, preaching the sermon, and are being blessed in their Manhood/Womanhood Ceremony.

Ingathering for the United Thank Offering at both the 8 and 10:15am services! Remember to bring back your little blue UTO boxes stuffed with money. They will be gathered together and blessed during both worship services. The funds go to help mothers in need.
Finally, there is a party!!! After all of these special events there will be cake and a celebration in Fellowship Hall. Please join the fun!

June 1st is the Annual Parish Picnic hosted by the Men's Group. Come enjoy a delicious lunch cooked and served by the Men's Group followed by yard games for all generations. Mark your calendar for Sunday, June 1, at 11:15am on the brick terrace behind the church building.

Spring Work Day is Back!! Come one, come all to help prepare and beautify the church and grounds. There will be something for people of all ages to do to help out. Bring your rakes, garden shovels and gloves on Saturday, May 3, at 9am and plan to stay until about noon. See you here!


 

INFORMATION  

St. Mark's has been host to several different Alcoholics Anonymous groups continuously for over 45 years. These are the longest standing groups of AA in the greater Barrington area, helping and serving people from all of the surrounding communities.

The schedule of AA meetings taking place at St. Mark's is:
Monday 1:00pm Women's group
Monday 8:00pm Co-ed group
Wednesday 7:00pm Women's Group --This is a closed group.
Friday 1:00pm Women's group
Friday 8:00pm Co-ed group
Saturday 7:00pm Couple's group
